PeriOptimum chooses Radianse indoor positioning solution: companies deliver real-time workflow, patient tracking across surgical services

First deployment at Hannibal Regional Hospital

Lawrence, MA, August 3, 2004 - Surgical care teams, patients and waiting families at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal, Missouri, can expect an improved perioperative experience with the go-live of a real-time workflow management and patient tracking solution from industry pioneers PeriOptimum and Radianse.

The companies have signed a value added reseller (VAR) agreement whereby PeriOptimum will integrate patent-pending Radianse active-RFID location technology into PathFinder, a software application that collects patient, equipment and process tracking data, distributes it via a hospital's Intranet or the Internet and stores it for analysis.

Improved communications and throughput

At Hannibal Regional Hospital, which serves 120,000 residents of northeast Missouri across 15 locations, PathFinder will be used to improve real-time communications and throughput across surgical services. Surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and patient families will have instant, secure access at computer stations or through integrated messaging to information relevant to their needs, such as when patients are in pre-op, the stages of procedures and when patients are admitted to post-anesthesia care.

Consistent access to this accurate, timely data contributes to greater efficiencies including improved utilization for hospitals, improved satisfaction for patients and their families and a proactive approach for identifying process improvement opportunities.

"We expect to use PathFinder to make the perioperative process a more satisfactory experience for everyone involved," said Judy Patterson, Director of Perioperative Services at Hannibal Regional Hospital. "The ability to see how our patients flow through the stages of care, from pre-op to post-op to discharge will ensure the right clinical resources are ready as needed - and we'll be able to identify where we need to make adjustments to improve the care process."

Non-exclusive, open location

Under the non-exclusive agreement, PeriOptimum is certified to deliver an integrated Radianse indoor positioning solution (IPS) - the indoor corollary to the global positioning system (GPS) - with its overall perioperative solutions. The Radianse Ready™ certification program gives manufacturers training, support and warranties to ensure consistently high performance of the Radianse location software, ID-tags and network-enabled receivers. Radianse adheres to an open systems approach to location solutions, shunning exclusive arrangements it sees as limiting a healthcare organization's ability to effectively track assets and find people across a healthcare campus.

Hakan Ilkin, CEO and president of PeriOptimum said, "We see tremendous potential to extend the optimization tools we provide hospitals through our agreement with Radianse. Theirs is a new and exciting vision for indoor positioning, open to all, simple to use and without the high price or installation and support complexity of earlier solutions on the market. Together, we expect our solution to be the most complete and practical for hospitals that recognize the need to improve the perioperative cycle."

Michael Dempsey, chief executive and technology officer of Radianse, said, "The value that the combined PeriOptimum/Radianse solution will provide is just as we have envisioned - a simple, accurate, consistent way to use time-stamped location data to identify bottlenecks and develop workflow solutions."
