Radianse indoor positioning solution (IPS) at work at HIMSS
Massachusetts General Hospital study to be reviewed in Education Session; Cerner and Picis each demonstrate Radianse IPS in their booths
February 2004 - Radianse, Inc., an innovator of highly accurate and affordable indoor positioning solutions (IPS), in its first year at the Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition (February 23-26), will present performance and payback details of the prototype Radianse IPS used at Massachusetts General Hospital in the "Operating Room of the Future." Radianse is also demonstrating its commercially-available IPS, and supporting systems in the Cerner and Picis booths.
HIMSS Education Session 96, "Minding your ROIs and APPs: Evaluating an Indoor Positioning Solution" is scheduled for February 24 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. in Room S320E. Mike Dempsey, chief technology officer of Radianse, will lead the session, which includes a discussion of current and future applications for IPS in healthcare.
An IPS provides the indoor corollary to the global positioning system (GPS) and can extend the potential of radio frequency identification (RFID) for practical application in healthcare. Beyond identifying where people and objects are located, a Radianse IPS uses location information to enable applications as varied as patient safety, automatic bed tracking and workflow analysis.
Find your way to Radianse, Cerner, Picis and Per Se' booths for demonstrations
Radianse (Booth 463) will demonstrate the use of an IPS to track assets, locate people and measure workflow, and a Radianse IPS will be at work at Cerner (Booth 146) and Picis (Booth 433).
Cerner, the leading supplier of healthcare information technology, will demonstrate the simplicity and effectiveness of indoor positioning for real-time people location. Booth associates are wearing small, battery-powered Radianse ID-tags; Radianse receivers connect directly to the booth's network, and web-based Radianse location software makes it fast and easy to find the right person at the right time. The expectation is to save time and improve satisfaction and productivity - just as a Radianse IPS can do in healthcare.
Picis, a provider of healthcare information systems that automate clinical documentation, workflow and business practices in the perioperative and critical care environments, will include a Radianse IPS as part of a solution demonstration.
PeriOptimum in partnership with Per Se' also will demonstrate a system in their booth. PeriOptimum delivers "a thorough, real-world proven, continuous process improvement solution for surgical services". Their solutions include: 1) Perioperative Improvement Evaluation (PIE), which provides objective perioperative performance, 2) Pathfinder, a patient-tracking and workflow management tool, and 3) Surgical Capacity Improvement Program (SCIP), which includes customized planning, implementation, and proprietary metric analysis toolkits.
Location intelligence key to IPS value
"To have such a powerful presence at HIMSS in our first year participating is extremely gratifying," said John Pantano, vice president of marketing and sales for Radianse. "And we're here with a two-fold message: it doesn't have to be complicated or cost-prohibitive to accurately determine location; and the future is in using location information to find more than people and things. It's finding new ways to make products, systems and processes more intelligent."
